La Fantastic Factory, costola della Filmax, è parto della mente di un Brian Yuzna (Society, The Dentist, The Dentist 2) stanco del cinema fantastico americano privo di idee e originalità e dedito a serializzare anche la peggiore delle produzioni. Questa piccola, ma splendida, realtà ci ha regalato ottimi prodotti low budget, scritti e creati con passione per il cinema: Faust (Yuzna), Arachnid (Jack Sholder), Dagon (Stuart Gordon), Beyond Reanimator (Yuzna), Darkness (Jaume Balaguerò), Rottweiler (Yuzna) e altri.
Ora la Fantastic Factory ha messo in cantiere la sua ultima produzione, Paintball, diretta dall'esordiente Daniel Benmayor.

Un gruppo di ragazzi parte per un weekend in mezzo alle montagne. Ognuno sa di poter contare solamente su sè stesso e sul proprio fucile a vernice.

The Thing

Questa è la classica notizia che non si vorrebbe mai leggere, ma procediamo per ordine.
Nel 1982, John Carpenter dirige una delle massime espressioni di cinema, capace di resistere per più di 20anni senza perdere smalto e rimanendo sempre contemporaneo.
Siamo nel 2008 e molti dei capolavori del passato hanno subito rifacimenti da americani privi di idee e di pudore.
Siamo nel 2008, precisamente il 13 Settembre, quando il Latino Review pubblica alcuni stralci dell'intervista a Marc Abraham, produttore del prossimo remake, La Cosa.


I asked Marc how can you possibly top the 1982 version and whether or not it is a remake or a sequel. This was his reply:

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

So I asked him if we are going to find out the origins of the alien and it landing on earth and he said:

“These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”

Hansel e Gretel (헨젤과 그레텔 ) è probabilmente il miglior film coreano degli ultimi anni ed è di oggi la notizia di un'uscita, seppur limitata, nelle sale canadesi.
La notizia, nonostante la relativa importanza, è supportata dalla speranza di un ottimo risultato per poi poter conquistare Stati Uniti ed Europa.

Nei prossimi giorni vedrò di pubblicare qualche immagine per rendervi partecipi della potenza visiva e della classe di questo originale classico moderno, diretto da Pil-Sung Yim e recitato dai bambini prodigio Shim Eun-Kyung e Jin Ji-Hee.

La data dell'anteprima è stata posticipata più volte, ma mai come ora ci stiamo avvicinando all'esordio nelle sale.

Milioni di persone vengono uccise da un virus letale, l'unica speranza è un trapianto tempestivo degli organi infetti, così la GeneCo, multinazionale della biotecnologia, organizza trapianti saldabili anche ratealmente, affinchè anche i meno abbienti possano continuare a sperare.
Siamo nel 2054 e anche nel futuro il business supera di gran lunga l'importanza di una vita umana. La dimostrazione la si può trovare per le strade e nei sobborghi: i Repo Men, mercenari al soldo della GeneCo, hanno l'ordine di ritirare la merce il cui pagamento non sia stato saldato.

Takashi Miike - Interview

L'adorazione che provo per Takashi Miike mi spinge a pubblicare questa intervista, a cura dei ragazzi di BD, nonostante sia estremamente priva di contenuti.
Tra l'altro, si potrà mai domandare a un regista del calibro di Miike (ma possiamo estendere la domanda a chiunque) quale dei suoi film vorrebbe vedere rifatto dagli americani?
"Are there any of your other films youd like to see remade in America?"

Set during "The Genpei Wars" at the end of the 1100s, the Minamoto and Taira gangs face off in a town named Yuda, while a deadly gunman (Ito Hideaki) comes to the aid of the townsfolk.

BD: Are you excited to see SUKIYAKI open in the USA?

TM: Of course! I’m looking forward to seeing it in the US.

BD: Where did you come up with the idea for SUKIYAKI?

TM: I’m a part of the Western generation. I used to watch lots of Western films when I was a child. It’s natural for me to make Western films like SUKIYAKI.

BD: SUKIYAKI has that “Miike” charm, with some fun characters and crazy sequences, how did you go about bringing this film to life?

TM: I just enjoyed making this film without having any pressure. As a result these characters have been created.

BD: Was this project any more difficult or was it easier to accomplish than your other films?

TM: Yes, it was extremely difficult. It was a battle against nature such as rain and snow.

Especially because we selected the location site which is the border line between the place where the gods of Japanese religion are believed to reside and the place where the human beings live.

The daily shooting was like ascetic training to us.

BD: Are you a fan of Westerns?

TM: Of course! But I’m a fan of Spaghetti-Western.

BD: What inspired SUKIYAKI?

TM: I wanted to get freedom.

BD: You had said that you put horror behind you; do you think that you might revisit the horror genre in the near future? Do you have any ideas in mind?

TM: To be more exact, I have never said that I put horror behind me. However, when I depict human beings, it turns out to be horror.

I realized that I don’t need to make the horror genre.

BD: Have you ever thought about working with Eli Roth again after HOSTEL?

TM: If he calls on me, I would love to work whenever he wants. But I don’t think he would…

BD: Being that you’re a legend in the horror genre, how do you feel about the way has turned in Japan and in America?

TM: I think American horror is based on a battle between gods and demons, or between ordinary and insane people.

Japanese horror is based on the grudge of people whether it’s related to gods or insane people.

I think Japanese horror films depict human beings.

BD: What do you think it takes for a horror film to be “good”?

TM: I don’t think it takes anything for a horror film to be “good”. I think there are many horror films which are loved by people for a long time.

BD: What did you think of the ONE MISSED CALL remake? The original was one of your first “serious” horror film, correct?

TM: In terms of Japanese style horror films, the ONE MISSED CALL may be a “serious” horror film.

But a horror film itself is minor genre, and that’s why there are some people who deeply love them. In my perspective, the ONE MISSED CALL is a completely opposite film from that.

BD: With films like GOZU, you shock the audience at the end of the film. Is this a standard for Miike films? Do you have any other big shockers planners for the future?

TM: I am not making films aiming to shock the audience.

So, I don’t have any other plans for that.

BD: Are there any of your other films youd like to see remade in America?

TM: I don’t have any particular.

BD: What’s next? Will you cameo in Tarantino’s INGLORIOUS BASTARDS?

TM: I am making films as Japanese in the Far East.

I personally would love to cameo in Tarantino’s film, but I guess he wouldn’t want me.

LE FOTOGRAFIE DI DAVID LYNCH ESPOSTE A ROMA

Roma, 11 set. (Adnkronos/Adnkronos Cultura) - Non solo regista acclamato dai cinefili di tutto il mondo, ma anche raffinato fotografo. Trenta scatti di David Lynch della serie "Nudes and Factories", realizzati nel 2000 a Lodz, in Polonia, saranno esposti a partire dal 9 ottobre presso la Scuola Romana di Fotografia, nella rassegna a cura di Agnieszka Zakrzewicz aperta al pubblico fino al 25 ottobre.

L'esposizione rappresenta un'occasione unica per ammirare, in Italia, l'opera fotografica del regista statunitense di "Velluto blu" e "Mulholland Dr." . La mostra e' stata organizzata dall'associazione culturale Laboratorio Gutenberg, l'associazione culturale Polandia - BezGranic, la Scuola Romana di Fotografia in collaborazione con Festa Internazionale del Film di Roma.

Gotham Knights

La notizia è circolata parecchio, ma pare che ora sia arrivato il momento dell'indizio chiave.
Specifichiamo, non si tratta ancora di ufficialità ma pare che un certo Micheal Caine (per ultimi The Dark Knight, The Prestige, Batman Begins) si sia lasciato sfuggire qualche nome di troppo riguardo il terzo capitolo del nuovo Batman di Nolan:

The Riddle, Johnny Depp
The Penguin, Philip Seymour Hoffman

I nomi sono molto promettenti, no!?

Splinter

Splinter è ambientato in una stazione di servizio, lungo la solita autostrada isolata (come solo negli states), nella quale comincia a diffondersi un virus. L'infezione porterà un'implacabile passione per il sangue e una trama abbastanza prevedibile.
Il film verrà proiettato il 31 Ottobre negli states, chi ha avuto modo di visionarlo in anteprima pare sia rimasto estremamente soddisfatto, ed è stata appena ufficializzata la locandina.

BD ha domandato alla Shoreline Entertainment quali saranno le sorti di From Beyond, di cui abbiamo già parlato qui, sentendosi rispondere che si sta pensando a un remake del classico di Stuart Gordon o, nell'ipotesi peggiore, a una serie tv.

Fin qui la trama è parecchio scontata, ma l'originalità proviene dall'essere il primo film slasher in assoluto ad essere prodotto interamente in Taiwan.

Inoltre il trailer è rimasto disponibile per poche ore su youtube prima di essere rimosso, ahimè.

La Shoreline Entertainment sta attualmente lavorando all'adattamento di From Beyond di H.P. Lovecraft.
Non si sa ancora nulla riguardo direzione e cast, ma temo sarà l'ennesimo tentativo fallito di portare il Maestro dell'ignoto sullo schermo.

Black Sheep

La Mediafilm ha pubblicato già da qualche ora il trailer italiano della commedia splatter Black Sheep, in uscita nelle sale il 19 Settembre.
Per chi non ne avesse sentito parlare, il film è un prodotto neozelandese (Peter Jackson vi dice niente?) che narrerà l'evoluzione di un gregge di pecore, scampato a un esperimento.





La Nuova Zelanda ha sempre avuto molto feeling co sangue e risate, Black Sheep farà rimpiangere i suoi predecessori? Continua...

Bat Out of Hell

BD.com ha appena pubblicato la sinossi uffiale del nuovo film di Joe Dante (Piranha, L'ululato, Gremlins), scritto da Drew McWeeny e Scott Swan, sceneggiatori dei due episodi di Carpenter per i Masters of Horror (Pro-Life, Cigarette Burns).

As a red eye flight from Los Angeles to New York takes off, everything seems to be normal. That is until the co-pilot kills the pilot and a rouge group of coach passengers head into first class armed and ready to kill. Their claim - there are 9 passengers in the front of the plane who must die tonight. They are vampires, and our "heroes" will crash the plane if they have to in order to ensure what must be done is done. Not willing to die without fighting, the vampires unleash their fury in a battle of strength and wits six miles high, and all before the sun rises on an unknowing New York City.
